Tom Murry on Education

Tom Murry and his mom

Tom Murry knows education. He knows what works and he knows what needs improving. How do I know? I am his mother, an educator. He listened to the ins and outs of public education his entire life and as a result often had input from a student’s perspective. He heard about the pros and cons of being a teacher because he had to live with one.

Tom was always an excellent student. In fact he was valedictorian of his high school class twenty five years after I was valedictorian at the same school. He was always driven to succeed in everything he did in school. We often discussed issues (both good and bad) and things that needed to be fixed. He recognized qualities that were necessary for schools to achieve and understood the inside story to the workings of administration. Often the complaints he heard were about the administrative side of the fence.

Now he has a chance to go even further and help the education system from the legislative side of the fence. He has great respect for the teachers who are trying to improve it more every year. He wants to help fix what is broken. He wants to help those who have a great impact on the leaders of tomorrow. I know my son will do an excellent job as a representative for NC House District 41. He has done an excellent job at everything he has done all his life. I expect nothing less if he is elected, and neither should you.
